Robert Gumny joined Podbeskidzie Bielsko-Biala on loan. The 19-year-old defender will compete for the first-league Polish club till the end of the season. The two clubs reached an agreement on Friday.
This season, the left-back appeared in 6 league matches, one Polish Cup clash and the Super Cup final. In order to keep the defender in the match rhythm, he also played in Lech’s reserve team. “Our aim is to provide Robert regularly with minutes on the pitch. At his age it is essential. The game rhythm is the key to a youngster’s development of skills,” explained Piotr Rutkowski, Lech’s vice-chairman.
Gumny is Lech’s home-grown player. He joined the senior team a year ago. At the beginning, he was a part of the training camp and got a chance to play in friendly games. His debut in Ekstraklasa took place in the clash with Legia Warsaw. In total, the youngster has 13 appearances in the senior team on his account. Now he will continue gaining crucial experience on the first-league pitches.
“We count on Robert and we believe that regular appearances in the first league will aid his development. He is a skilled footballer and he has shown it multiple times when playing for the senior team. However, at the moment it will be hard for him to play regularly in Lech. I believe that shortly after his return Robert will fight for a place in the starting line-up and show us what he is capable of,” said the vice-chairman.
Podbeskidzie is currently ranked 9th in the league table. In the 19 matches played so far, the club collected 25 points. The team is 10 points away from the league rank that would promote Podbeskidzie to Ekstraklasa.
