After three matches without a win in a row, Lech travelled to Zabrze to face the local team Górnik. Mariusz Rumak’s squad knew they had a difficult task ahead of them as their opponent triumphed in the last six home clashes. In the end, Górnik’s successful home run came to a halt as the match ended in a goalless draw.
Rumak’s team wanted to use the clash with Górnik as a bounce-back after the painful loss against Raków (0:4). In addition, the Saturday game was also an opportunity to catch up to the league leaders – Śląsk Wrocław – who lost 1:3 against Jagiellonia Białystok. But the team from Poznań needed to stay careful, especially considering Górnik’s lethal wingers – Lawrence Ennali and Adrian Kapralik had a great start to the spring round, but on Saturday, Lech’s defenders successfully deprived them of room to shine. Both sides struggled to create goal-scoring opportunities in the first half.
The second half looked a bit different though. The guests kicked off the second part of the match with a blast as they fired two shots on target within a short period. Gradually, Lech’s control of the game grew, the right flank being the key element of their offensive attempts. Joel Pereira even came close to adding another assist to his stats, but at the last moment, Dominik Szala intercepted his pass. In the 90th minute, Lech’s homegrown striker Filip Szymczak had a chance to turn the tables who received a long ball from Bartosz Salamon and fired a good shot towards Górnik’s goal, but the ball hit the woodwork. In the end, with neither of the sides having managed to find the back of the net, the two teams were forced to share league points.
