Unfortunately, Lech failed to kick off 2021 with a win in their first official match. The team from Poznań drew 1:1 in an away clash with Górnik Zabrze.
The beginning of the match didn’t go as planned for the guests as they conceded a goal in the 8th minute. Górnik attacked using the left flank and Alex Sobczyk, who was positioned in the box, effortlessly placed the ball in the back of the net with a flat, precise shot.
Lech was determined to equalize quickly and still have a shot at winning three points, however, the hosts defended well and successfully stopped all offensive attempts that were coming their way. Fortunately, Lech had plenty of set pieces and it was following a corner kick and Alan Czerwiński’s well-timed, precise cross that Thomas Rogne changed the score to 1:1 with a header.
Neither of the sides managed to beat their opponent again, hence they had to share league points in the first PKO Ekstraklasa match of 2021. On a more positive note, Bartosz Salamon and Jesper Karlström made a good impression in their official debuts for the team from Poznań.
