Lech Poznań confidently beat Garbarnia Cracow in the round of 16 of the Fortuna Polish Cup. The top-division side won 4:0 and advanced to the next phase of the tournament.
So far, the Fortuna Polish Cup draws have been lucky for Lech – the team from Poznań always got rivals from lower divisions. First, they faced second-tier Skra Częstochowa (3:0), then they played against Unia Skierniewice who compete in the fourth division (2:0), and on Wednesday the team from Poznań faced Garbarnia Cracow who are one tier below Lech.
There was no doubt that Lech was the favourite in the clash with the side from Cracow despite their starting line-up being mainly composed of substitute players. The second-choice squad rose to the challenge and left no doubts that they were in control of the game and would get the team into the round of 8 of the Fortuna Polish Cup. After 25 minutes, Lech was already up by two goals following successful attempts from Filip Marchwiński and Artur Sobiech. Before the referee announced halftime, Alan Czerwiński changed the score to 3:0 – it was his first goal for the team from Poznań.
The second part of the match wasn’t as dynamic and exhilarating but Lech did find the back of the net one more time thanks to Radosław Murawski whose strong shot from outside the box left the goalkeeper helpless.
As a result, Lech advanced to the round of the 8 of the Fortuna Polish Cup. Their next rival will be revealed during the draw which is scheduled for Friday, 12 pm.
