The last game of the 2017/18 season was interrupted in the 77th minute and never resumed. On Sunday evening, the League Commission decided to award Legia with a walkover, while 4 days later, the executive body gathered once more and decided about further punishments for Lech Poznan.
The League Commission’s official statement reads, “The Commission took decisions with an intention for the penalties to be acute and directed at people responsible for the happening. Simultaneously, the League Commission took under consideration the voivode’s decision to close down the stadium for 5 home league matches. Thus, there are no additional penalties of stadium closure. Furthermore, the Commission kept in mind the suggestions presented by Lech Poznan and the club’s voluntary acceptance of the punishment.”
The club has already been punished by Greater Poland’s voivode. Last Monday, Zbigniew Hoffman met with the club representatives, police, and fire brigade, and decided to close the stadium down for 8 matches (5 league games, and 3 Europa League qualifying matches).
INEA Stadium close-down for 5 league matches will be extended by one additional game during which only stand no. 2 will be empty. Furthermore, the fans who watched the clash between Lech and Legia from the stand no. 2 won’t be allowed to enter the stadium for the next 3 games. Additionally, Lech’s supporters are banned from traveling to away games until the end of 2018, while the club itself will pay the highest financial penalty in its history.
