Barry Douglas signed a new contract with Lech Poznań. The Scottish player extended the agreement with Lech for another 12 months, that is, until June 2024. “Barry is an important figure and character to us. He is one of the most experienced players in the squad. He deals greatly with pressure and has a positive impact on youth players,” said Lech’s Vice-President, Piotr Rutkowski.
It’s Barry’s second span at Lech. The 33-year-old used to compete for the Poznań squad back in the years 2013-2016 and he returned to Bułgarska Street before last season. In the meantime, the defender represented the likes of Konyaspor, Wolverhampton, and Leeds. In the previous campaign, Douglas made 15 appearances, scored one goal, and got 2 assists. Barry also helped Lech reach the final of the Polish Cup – he scored 3 times in the competition.
“Despite his age, he does well on the pitch, and he has helped us numerous times this season, hence we have no doubts that he will uphold the same quality next season. We are optimistic about it. It’s great that Barry is staying with us because we need this kind of player in the dressing room,” explained Piotr Rutkowski.
The Scottish defender won two Championship titles with Lech and one Super Cup. He also made an appearance in all the competitions this season. The 33-year-old proved his versatility by playing on the left flank and in the centre of the defensive line. Douglas’s new contract will last for another year.
“I am thrilled and honoured. I am glad to have extended my stay at Lech and continue writing my story here. Lech is the club that I have spent the longest time at in my career. I have a lot of memories, some of them better, some of them worse; I suffered injuries and won the Polish Championship. I am excited about the upcoming year, I cannot wait,” highlighted Barry Douglas.
