71 days – this is how long Lech Poznan has been waiting for a win at home ever since they beat Wisla Plock in a league clash. The recent match against Wisla Cracow ended this unfortunate run of poor performances at home. “It was an incredibly important game for us. We scored four goals and played a great match,” commented Puchacz, Lech’s midfielder.
In the 2nd round of PKO Ekstraklasa, Lech Poznan beat Wisla Plock at home. No one could have foreseen that it would take so many weeks before the team would celebrate another great match in front of their own crowd. “For me personally, as well as for the rest of the team, finally winning a home clash was of great importance. It’s been a long since that match against Wisla Plock but we have finally managed to get a win and it’s such an amazing feeling. I am even more excited because it was the first time that I could celebrate a win in front of our fans,” explained Lubomir Satka, who wasn’t yet allowed to appear on the pitch in the mentioned game against Wisla Plock.
The Saturday clash with Wisla Cracow didn’t initially go as planned. However, as time passed and the team from Poznan scored the first goal, everything fell into place and the match eventually ended with a very confident win of the hosts. “At first, we struggled, nothing went right and we were really frustrated. We could hear our coach shouting from the sidelines that we needed to move higher up the pitch but didn’t follow his instructions. Finally, towards the end of the first half, the started playing better and as a result, we got the first goal. In the second part of the match, we performed significantly better which helped us score again and again,” summarised Jakub Kaminski.
“In the first half, Wisla was in possession of the ball most of the time, but it didn’t result in any problems for us. I felt like we were in control of the game and created scoring chances. We were conscious of the unfortunate run of poor performances at home, hence we were very determined to win,” added Darko Jevtic who scored the first goal in the clash with Wisla Cracow.
Ever since that match against the team from Plock, Lech lost to Slask Wroclaw (1:3), Cracovia (1:2), and drew with Jagiellonia (1:1) at home. Despite unsatisfactory performances, the players from Poznan could still count on the support of their fans. During the two lost matches, Lech’s squad was being supported by 32,000 and 25,000 fans respectively. “We needed that to put an end to losing points knowing how much support we get from our fans and, therefore, we also dedicate this recent win to them. Aside from that, we need to catch up with the teams from the top of the league table. Now we are within their reach and we really need that kind of stability. Whenever we all come back from the international break, we need to make sure that we continue performing as well as we did against Wisla,” emphasized Jakub Moder.
Currently, Lech is ranked 5th in the league table – just 3 points behind Pogon Szczecin who’s at the top of the rank. After the international break, the team from Poznan is going to face Legia Warsaw in an away game, Lechia Gdansk at home, and then Piast in Gliwice.
