Lech won the 4th league match of the season. This time the side from Poznan beat Cracovia 2:0. Jóźwiak and Gytkjaer – both of which came on the pitch late into the match – scored the goals for Lech. The 3 points helped the club advance to the 4th rank in the league table.
Lech’s players quickly dominated the match. The guests were in possession of the ball for the majority of the time and were determined to beat Cracovia’s defensive line as quickly as possible. However, Cracovia was the first one to get a good scoring chance. In the 3rd minute Zenjov crossed the ball into the box where Piatek was waiting, but the latter’s header was easily saved by the keeper. 4 minutes later Lech responded with a shot from Gumny, but it flew above the crossbar.
Lech struggled to enter Cracovia’s penalty area due to their rival’s formation – the hosts played with 5 defenders which helped them guard the goal effectively. In the 23rd minute Lech finally managed to come closer, but the ball was recovered by one of Cracovia’s defenders. Malarczyk performed very well that evening and he succeeded in stopping Nicki Bille from causing problems to Cracovia’s defensive line.
Lech eventually dominated the wings. In the 32nd minute Rakels sent the ball to Situm who was positioned on the left flank and the latter redirected it into the box where Nicki Bille was waiting. Unfortunately for Lech, the Dane’s header was easily saved by Sandomierski. 2 minutes later Cracovia’s goalkeeper was to intervene again. This time Rakels caused some problems to Cracovia’s defensive line, but his attempt was off target.
The second half began well for Lech Poznan too. In the 52nd minute Barkroth spotted Gumny, gave him the ball and the young right back raced into the box. His pass along the goal-line could have been converted into a goal by either Nicki Bille or Tralka, but both were late. A couple of minutes later Nicki Bille was the one to cross the ball into the box, but again, there was no one to finish off the offensive action.
The hostsconcentratedd on the offensive in the second half. In the 60th minute they could have taken the lead. Piatek got a good opportunity to score, but his header hit the post. A moment later Szczepaniak had a scoring chance, but his attempt was off target. Lech wanted to respond quickly, but they struggled to cause problems to Cracovia defenders. However, Bjelica made 3 substitutions which had a big impact on the match – Makuszewski, Jóźwiak and Gytkjaer appeared on the pitch and brought fresh energy to the team.
In the 82nd minute Lech scored the first goal. Makuszewski left the right flank and raced into the box. The winger was fouled, however, the referee waited to see what happens and Jóźwiak recovered the ball and redirected it into the back of the net with a great, technical shot. 2 minutes later Makuszewski ran down the right flank and sent a well-timed pass to Gytkjaer who beat Sandomierski with a flat shot into the back of the net. The Dane set the final scored to 2:0 and Lech collected all 3 points.
