Three midfield positions and seven candidates to fill them. So far this season, only three of those players won a spot in the starting line-up. “The [internal] competition among the midfield players is a great thing as it motivates us to work even harder,” explained Jesper Karlström.
Jesper Karlström and Pedro Tiba have appeared in all of the PKO BP Ekstraklasa matches so far, and spent a total of 261 minutes on the pitch*. Apart from the two players, Joao Amaral (228 minutes) also found his way into the starting line-up. Meanwhile, Dani Ramirez (52 minutes), Radosław Murawski (39 minutes), Nika Kvekveskiri (33 minutes) and Filip Marchwiński (23 minutes) all came in as substitutes. “The [internal] competition among the midfield players is a great thing as it motivates us to work even harder. During each training session, we have to compete for a spot in the starting line-up. The coach has a lot of options to choose from. You never know which one of us is going to play, hence we put in a lot of work and push hard to be ready whenever our turn comes,” emphasised Jesper Karlström. “With every training session, we improve technically as we strive to be better and better. We have a great team and it doesn’t matter which player is selected for the midfield because each one of us will do a good job. You can feel a great spirit within the squad,” added Lech’s midfielder.
Coach Maciej Skorża agreed with the Swede during one of the press conferences. “The great atmosphere in the dressing room is worth highlighting, however, more importantly, so is the work that players put in during the training sessions. Sometimes, we don’t want to end the mini-games because of how great the team looks. I have to say that, honestly, the quality of the work during the practice sessions is very good,” emphasised Maciej Skorża.
