Club statement

On Tuesday, Lech Poznań received information that sample A from Bartosz Salamon’s anti-doping tests, which followed Lech’s second-leg clash with Djurgårdens IF, came back positive. The test revealed the presence of a substance called chlorthalidone which is used to treat high blood pressure and brings no direct benefits to athletic endurance. Salamon hasn’t been suspended; he is allowed to continue to compete until the investigation is deemed closed.

Anti-doping tests are a standard procedure when it comes to UEFA matches. This is the first instance of a positive result in the past tenths of tests that Lech’s players underwent in the recent seasons. The investigation is meant to clarify how the previously mentioned substance became present in Salamon’s blood. The defender did not take any supplements or medications without consultation and a green light from Lech’s medical staff.

The club will do everything in their power to clarify the situation in the name of Salamon, of whose innocence Lech have no doubt. The player has the club’s full support. The Polish defender, via the club, has asked the anti-doping agency to repeat the test. Lech have been abiding closely by all the procedures outlined by the regulations of the World Antidoping Agency, hence, the club is ready to fully cooperate to clarify the situation.

First, Lech have appointed an independent commission of experts who will thoroughly investigate the circumstances. Secondly, the club declares their full willingness to cooperate with all institutions, both football (FIFA, UEFA, PZPN) and those responsible for matters related to doping in sports (WADA and the Polish Anti-Doping Agency - POLADA).
