Lech Poznań won with Termalica 3:0 in the Sunday clash. The three points helped Lech keep the second spot in the league. The team from Poznań now has the same number of points as Jagiellonia who drew its match on Friday.
The team from Poznań began the match really well. Lech quickly took possession of the ball and remained in control of the game. However, Termalica was the first one to attack early in the 9th minute. Nonetheless, the hosts’ attempts were ineffective. Meanwhile, on the other end of the pitch Lech converted its first good scoring chance into a goal. In the 15th minute Putnocky initiated a counterattack which was then led by Makuszewski. The midfielder left the ball for Radut who raced towards Termalica’s goal and beat the goalkeeper with a precise shot from outside the box.
Termalica was determined to equalize, but it was Lech that had more scoring opportunities. In the 21st minute Radut’s cross from a corner kick reached Wilusz who was left unmarked in the penalty area. The defender fired a shot, but off target. A moment later Kostevych’s ball to Pawlowski ended with the latter dribbling past the defenders before Ziajka stopped the midfielder in time.
Bjelica’s players indisputably struggled on the Sunday afternoon. Robak was busy in the offensive, constantly fighting for the ball in the air. The team from Poznań had to remain cautious in case Termalica led a counterattack. The hosts were often in possession of the ball and managed to build good scoring chances quite regularly. For instance, Misak and Stefanik both tried surprising Putnocky with shots from outside the box, but in both cases, their attempts were off target.
The 2nd half began with the hosts’ intensified offensive actions. Stefanik’s attempts caused problems to Lech defenders and the goalkeeper. However, Lech also had a couple of good opportunities to score. For example, in the 56th minute Kostevych converted a free kick into a good shot, but Trela predicted where the ball would fall and managed to stop it from falling into the back of the net.
Meanwhile, Lech tried to move the play to Termalica’s half of the pitch and eliminate the danger of conceding a goal. Gradually the team from Poznan succeeded in regaining control over the play. An hour into the game Termalica seemed trapped in its own box. Lech was awarded a number of set pieces and one of them helped the guests score the second goal. Radut crossed the ball into the penalty box and Putiwcew unluckily redirected it into its own goal.
Since that moment on Lech had absolutely dominated the match. 2 minutes later the team from Poznan scored the third goal. Tomczyk’s shot from an acute angle caused problems to Trela and instead of catching the ball, the goalkeeper deflected it and Majewski easily placed it in the back of the net, setting the final score to 3:0. Lech had one more good scoring chance before the final whistle, but since Tomczyk failed to get to the ball in time, the score remained unchanged.
