In nearly half of the matches that Filip Bednarek played in the 2022/2023 season, the goalkeeper held onto a clean sheet. A total of 23 games without conceding a goal is a record-breaking achievement for a Lech keeper. In the past season of PKO BP Ekstraklasa, Bednarek and Vladan Kovačević from Raków Częstochowa have been equally effective on the goal line.
The Polish and the Bosnian keepers had no equals in the Polish top division. They both had 16 clean sheets, leaving other opponents far behind – Henrich Ravas (Widzew Łódź) and Bartosz Mrozek (Stal Mielec) managed not to concede a goal 12 times in the past campaign. Overall, Kovačević had a slightly better statistic percentage-wise (57%) than Bednarek (50%) when it comes to clean sheets, however, it is also because the Bosnian keeper played fewer matches than the Pole. Still, when it comes to performance in the league, Matuš Putnocky is the record-holder for Lech – back in the season 2016/17, he accumulated 18 clean sheets and was just one game shy of breaking the league’s all-time record.
However, when we look at all the competitions, Filip Bednarek has no equals. With 23 cleans sheets (16 in the league, 7 in European competition) in 49 games, he stopped the opponents from scoring in nearly half of Lech’s games. As a result, the Pole surpassed Jasmin Buric’s record from the season 2015/16 during which he played 20 matches without conceding a goal.
