On Saturday morning Arnaud Djoum became a new player of Lech Poznan. The Cameroonian with a Belgian passport is 26 years old and plays on the position of the defensive midfielder. He signed a contract till the end of the season, with a possibility of extension for another 2 years.
Djoum is a homegrown player of FC Brussels. The midfielder left for Anderlecht at the age of 19. He played there for half a year and since January 2009 he represented Roda Kerkrade where he had 119 appearances in the Eredivisie and 10 in the Dutch Cup. When playing for Roda he scored 11 goals.
"A defensive midfielder was a necessity, as there was no equal rival for Lukasz Tralka. Now the competition on this position is adequate," said the vice-chairman, Piotr Rutkowski. "We want to use Djoum's experience that came from playing in the Dutch and Turkish league."
In autumn the Cameroonian represented Turkish Akhisarspor for which he played 18 games and 1160 minutes in total. In January, following the appointment of the new coach - Roberto Carlos, Djoum terminated his contract and left Turkey. The player signed a contract with Lech till the end of the season, with a possibility of extension for another 2 years.
"All year long we work on the transfers and observe different footballers. At first we were willing to end the transfers for this winter following the signing of Tamas Kadar, however we have changed our plans when we were informed that Djoum terminated his contract with Akhisarspor," said the vice-chairman. "The negotiations went smoothly and we have reached an agreement quickly. If the player makes a good impression in the upcoming spring round and appears in a specific number of games, he will stay in Poznan for longer. It's a good deal that allows both sides to get to know each other better."
Djoum is the third signing of this transfer window. Earlier on two Hungarians joined Lech. The first one was David Holman who is meant to complete the offensive, while the second one was the defender, Tamas Kadar. Moreover, the club also managed to have Darko Jevtic stay, as the player has been bought from FC Basel.
