58 days – that is how long it is going to take for the football season in Poland to finish, according to the Polish Football Association and Ekstraklasa. Hence, Lech’s players will have to complete a match marathon with games played every 3 or 4 days.
The season will officially resume for Lech on May 27th, 2020 – that’s when, after a two-month break, Zuraw’s players will reappear on the pitch to fight for Totolotek Polish Cup semifinals. The team from Poznan is going to face Stal Mielec in an away clash. From that day, until July 24th, Lech will be playing matches twice a week. However, so far we only know three definitive dates – the first league game after the break – against Legia Warsaw – is scheduled for 30th May, 8 pm, then Lech will face Zagłębie in Lubin on June 6th, 5:30 pm, and Pogoń Szczecin at home on June 9th, 8:30 pm.
Even though Lech is going to have a week-long break between the games with Legia and Zagłębie, the 'match-less' period can be misleading. The match against the team from Lubin will initiate a very intense schedule during which the league will try to complete the season as soon as possible. 3 days after the clash with Zagłębie, Lech is going to compete in the pre-last match of the main phase of the season. In the following round, all matches will be played at the same time.
The upcoming three league matches will have a big impact on the play-offs. If Lech manages to advance at least to the fourth position in the league table, 4 of their 7 playoff games will be played in Poznań. Considering the current challenges related to travelling, every match played at home saves the club plenty of logistical efforts.
Starting June 20th, Lech along with all top-division clubs are going to play every 3 days, excluding a longer break between the 34th and 35th league round when the Polish Cup semi-finals are scheduled. Most probably, Lech will play its final league game on July 17th. If the team from Poznań successfully beats the quarterfinal and semifinal rivals, they are also going to play in the Totolotek Polish Cup final on July 22nd or 24th. The date is dependent on which teams will be promoted to the final - if either of the two teams is a second-division club, the earlier date is more likely. However, if two top-tier teams will be fighting for the trophy, the final will take place on July 24th.
