A confident win helped Lech advance to the next stage of Europa League qualifiers. The team from Poznań beat Apollon Limassol 5:0 in an away clash and secured a place in the last qualifying phase of the international competition.
The match held in Cyprus began with a few dangerous offensive attempts from Apollon, however, Lech successfully stopped their rival from breaking down their defensive line. Shortly before halftime, the hosts managed to place the ball in the back of Lech’s net but the linesman pointed out an offside the goal was disallowed. The Polish team responded quickly and before the referee announced halftime, Lech changed the score to 0:1 following a beautiful duet from Ramirez and Tiba and a great, precise finish from the latter.
After the break, Lech became unstoppable. In the 47th minute, Ishak received a perfectly-timed pass from Tiba and secured a 2-goal lead with a shot into the bottom corner. Within 10 minutes, it was already 3:0 for the Polish club after Kamiński flawlessly finished off a counterattack.
Sykora and Tiba set the final score to 5:0. First, the Czech midfielder found a bit of space in front of the box and fired a flat shot into the bottom corner, and then his Portuguese teammate finished off a counterattack dribbling past two defenders and calmly placing the ball in the net. The 5:0 score is Lech’s third highest win in European competition.
