Latvian club FK Valmiera will be Lech’s rival in the first round of Europa League qualifiers. The match will be held in Poznań.
Tamaz Pertia’s squad is currently ranked third in the league table, 15 points behind Riga FC who’s occupying the leader’s spot. In Latvia, the league has adopted a spring-autumn system and as a result, Lech’s rival is now 13 matches into the season.
FK Valmiera won a spot in the Europa League qualifiers after finishing 4th in the previous campaign. FK RFS – a club that finished the second 2nd – won the national cup, therefore, Valmiera was awarded a chance to compete on the international arena. Interestingly, FK Valmiera has only been playing on the top football tier for the past three seasons.
The Europa League qualifying match is going to take place on August 27th. The two teams will face each other on Lech’s home ground.
