Lech drew with Belenenses in Lisbon 0:0. The team from Poznan still has the chance to advance to the next round despite the tie, however in order for that to happen, Lech needs to win with FC Basel in the last match of the group phase and hope for a favorable result in the Portuguese' game against Fiorentina.
The hosts were focused on the offensive since the opening minutes. Most of their actions were built on the left flank, but Lech's defense was solid, despite a few misunderstandings. Urban made changes in the defense line and Belenenses tried exploiting small errors made by Lech's defenders for their own advantage. Tiago Caeiro could have scored early on in the match, however he failed to head the ball accurately. Lech, on the other side, wanted to surprise its opponent with shots from a distance, but most of them were simply not on target.
The game soon became more balanced, but the hosts had better goal-scoring opportunities. In the 23rd minute Caeiro had another chance to score. Andre Geraldes sent a great pass to the former player, but he was blocked by Dariusz Dudka just in time to clear the threat. However, the clash of the two players ended with referee pointing to the white spot in the penalty area. The Northern Irish saw Dudka holding the Portuguese forward and thus awarded the hosts with a penalty area that Silva was meant to convert into a goal, but instead he sent the ball flying over the crossbar and wasted a great opportunity for Belenenses to take over the lead.
Nonetheless, Belenenses remained in high spirit and began attacking even more intensively. 4 minutes before halftime the Portuguese team had another chance to score when Douglas made a mistake and accidentally passed the ball to Caeiro, but fortunately for Lech the player failed to hit the ball on target. The Portuguese team could have scored 3 goals in the first half, but their inefficiency and inability to convert goal-scoring opportunities into actual goals left the goalless tie unchanged as the referee whistled halftime.
Even though the blank tie wasn't a satisfactory result for neither of the sides, the teams seemed less determined to score in the second half. Most of the play took place in the midfield and the goalkeepers were left jobless most of the time. Pawlowski's entry on the pitch gave some fresh energy to Lech, but neither did he, not Douglas manage to convert the goal-scoring opportunities into goals.
In the closing minutes Lech finally began pressing more intensively, but so did Belenenses. The coaches used up all their substitutions while their players began to open up more often, in search of a goal. However, the offensive actions of both sides were chaotic and the shots inaccurate. The goalless tie gives some hope to both sides, but which one, and if, will qualify further we will see in the last round of the group stage.
