The road to the IV round
Similarly to Lech, the Hungarian Champions began competing on the European arena from the II round of Champions League qualifications. Videoton advanced to the next round after extra time added to their clash with The New Saints. When the Hungarians eliminated the Welsh rival, they had to face BATE Borisov. After a tough fight, the Belarussian team beat Videoton FC 2:1, and therefore the latter club dropped to the Europa League play-offs.
Pre-season changes in the squad
Nemanja Nikolić is one of the players that left Videoton before this season and now the forward is representing Legia Warsaw. The Hungarian was the best goal scorer of Nemzeti Bajnoks I. In addition, goalkeeper Juan Calatayud (now a player of Atletico de Kolkata), midfielder Gyorgy Sandor (transferred to Australian Perth Glory), left-back Stopira and the forward Arturo Alvarez (contracts expired) all left the team from Székesfehérvár.
During the summer break 12 new players joined Casonis team and 5 of them returned from loans. To fill in the hole left by the absence of Nikolić, the club brought down three new forwards: Gergely Rudolf, Tamas Koltaia and Alhassane Soumaha.
The French coach
Since July the Hungarian team is led by Bernard Casoni. The French coach did not win over the fans' sympathy. Out of the 6 games that Videoton has already played, he won only two. Twice Casoni's team was beaten and twice it had to share points with the rival.
Lech and Videoton will face each other for the first time on August 20th at INEA Stadium.
