For the past 100 days, Nenad Bjelica has been the leader of Lech Poznan. The Croatian coach replaced Jan Urban at the end of August.
Bjelica signed a contract with Lech Poznan on Tuesday, 30th August 2016. Rene Poms and dr. Martin Mayer also became a part of the training staff. “Lech is a great club with a significant potential for development. The team is capable of playing really good football. I am happy to have joined the club,” said Bjelica, after signing the contract.
The charismatic Croatian coach won the love of the fans with his passion for the sport. In addition, Bjelica has been accepted and respected by the players themselves who have started winning points regularly since the coach joined the club. Shortly after his arrival, the coach announced that Lech is going to play offensive football which is a pleasure to watch.
“I like footballers who leave their hearts on the pitch; those that play responsibly and off the pitch they represent the values of the club they play for. However, the footballers need to be aware of the fact that they are competing for a large club. Bad matches, losses, and draws happen once in a while, but they always need to give their all on the field. That is when the fans won’t be frustrated with us. Therefore, I demand this attitude from every single player. The team matters the most, not individuality,” explained the coach.
Since the end of August, the team from Poznan competed in 11 league games. 6 of them ended with three points on Lech’s account, two were a draw and Lech lost 3 times. In total, the club has collected 20 points over the 100 days. However, the team has also been competing in the Polish Cup where they first eliminated Ruch Chorzow, and then Wisla Cracow, to advance to the semi-finals when Pogon Szczecin will be their next rival.
