Lech’s footballers began the preparations for the upcoming league clash with Gornik Leczna. In the Sunday match, the senior team will attempt to continue the successful series of won games that they initiated over a month ago. Quite likely, a win in the nearest league match can put Lech on the first position in the league table.
So far Lech won all the matches in the spring round of the season, among them five league clashes and one Polish Cup game. “It’d be great if we could continue the series. Every time we enter the pitch, our aim is to win,” said Darko Jevtic, who scored twice and assisted three times in the past six games. A couple of days ago the player scored a remarkable goal against Arka. In the recent league clash with the team from Gdynia, Lech was winning 3:0 at halftime, but in the second half of the match their rival scored a goal. It was the first time that Lech conceded a goal in this spring league round.
“We wish we avoided conceding a goal, but that also proves that we still have a lot to work on,” explained the Swiss footballer, who also recalled the autumn match with Zaglebie Lubin. Similarly, Lech was winning 3:0 at halftime, but their rivals started causing problems to Lech’s defensive line. Luckily, they didn’t manage to score that night. However, the senior players from Poznan are well-aware of the elements that they still need to improve. “These are short spans of the game. We need to work extra hard on the pitch. The Friday match proved that we still have things we need to work on,” emphasised the 24-year-old midfielder.
Lech will get another opportunity to show their progress on Sunday, in a home clash with Gornik Leczna who’s currently occupying the last rank in the league table. For the second time in a row INEA Stadium will be filled in with about 30 thousand people. Quite likely, there will be no seats empty. “It is great news for us. We play at home, in front of our supporters, which gives us extra motivation to play great football. We need to concentrate on our task and collect three points. However, there are still a couple of hard training session ahead of us before the game. If we exploit the time we have left to prepare well, it will be easier for us to win,” explained Jevtic.
