Rasmus Carstensen joins Lech on loan

The 24-year-old arrived in Poznań on Wednesday afternoon and began undergoing medical tests soon after. On Thursday morning, Carstensen received a green light from the medical staff and signed a 6-month agreement with the club from Poznań.

“Rasmus Carstensen has just joined us on a half-year loan from 1. FC Köln. He is still young but he has experience playing in the 1^st and 2^nd Bundesliga. The Dane will reinforce our right defence, but he is also able to compete on the left flank. He is a dynamic, fast player that stands out due to the intensity of his game. We are happy to have him and we hope that he will help us fight for the Polish Championship title,” said Tomasz Rząsa, Lech’s Sporting Director.

Carstensen began his adventure with football at Silkeborg and that’s where he also made his first steps in senior football. The Dane was a key figure in the club’s promotion to the Superliga and in the season 2020/2021 alone he got 11 assists. In the following campaign, he proved that his disposition wasn’t an accident and helped his team secure third place in the league. Carstensen’s great form was recognized by the scouts from Genk and the Belgian side ended up buying the Dane for 3 million euros. However, the defender didn’t do well at Genk, and a year later he moved to 1. FC Köln where he played 23 games but failed to shield his team from relegation.

“I am very happy and thrilled that everything went the way it should have and that I can join Lech Poznań. I know that I am coming to a club that’s great not only on the national scale but also in Europe. I cannot wait for the training sessions with the team. Every player wants to win trophies, and I admit that so do I. I know that Lech is the leader and is fighting for the championship title, and hence it was also important to me,” explained Rasmus Carstensen.
