The deal has been sealed and Lech’s squad has been reinforced by a new player – Mario González. The Spaniard joins Lech on a 6-month loan from the MLS side Los Angeles FC.
The player arrived in Poznań on Monday evening. He travelled to Poland from Portugal where he spent the past months on loan at FC Famalicão. In the autumn round, González appeared in 16 games for the Portuguese club, scored 2 goals, and got 2 assists. However, his biggest career achievements date to the 2022/2023 season when the striker scored 13 goals in 22 matches for OH Leuven, and the previous campaign, when the Spaniard got one more goal whilst playing at CD Tondela. During his career, González also represented various Spanish and French clubs.
“We brought Mario González on loan from the American club Los Angeles FC. He is an experienced striker who has no problems adapting to new teams quickly. Moreover, he is currently mid-season, which means he is practically ready to appear on the pitch. There is no buyout clause, but we are hoping that the Spaniard will help us in the last 14 league games of the season, in the fight for the Championship title, putting pressure on our captain Mikael Ishak. Mario feels comfortable with counterattacks as well as combinational play and knows how to find free space in the opponent’s box. He was very efficient in Belgium and Portugal, and we are hoping that it will be no different here in Poland,” explained Lech’s Sporting Director, Tomasz Rząsa.
Mario González joined MLS in July 2023, on a permanent transfer from the Portuguese club Braga for a fee of 2.34 million euros. Now he is joining Lech on loan from the American side. On Tuesday, the player successfully underwent medical tests and signed a contract with Lech.
“I am happy to join Lech and I cannot wait for Friday and the first match. I am ready. I watched the match against Widzew Łódź and the fans made a big impression on me; it will be really nice to play in front of them. I am quick and play well with my head. I like going into the box and finishing the offensive attempts from there, as well as cutting through the opponent’s defensive line,” highlighted Mario González.
The Spaniard will wear number 77 on his shirt.
