“Joel’s contract would expire in June 2025, but the Portuguese and his family feel great in Poznań and at Lech, hence we are happy to announce that we have extended our agreement for another 2 years - that is, until June 30^th, 2027. As a result, our right defensive flank is secured in terms of quality and experience,” explained Lech’s Sporting Director, Tomasz Rząsa.

The 28-year-old is close to becoming one of the top 10 foreign players with the most appearances for Lech Poznań. So far, the Portuguese right-back played in 136 games for the team from Greater Poland and 103 of those were league appearances. He also scored 3 goals, but it is his crosses from the flank into the penalty area that are his most appreciated skill. Those passes got him 26 assists which is a great achievement for a right-back.

“Joel Pereira is the best right-back in the Polish top division. Hence, we are even more thrilled to extend our cooperation which began 3 years ago when we brought Joel [to Poznań] from the Cyprus league. Already in his first season, he turned out to be a key figure in the squad, winning the Polish Championship title and reaching the historic quarterfinals of the Europa Conference League in the following campaign. The fans are impressed by our right-back’s offensive skills and his crosses into the box. Joel is accumulating plenty of assists. We are hoping that he will continue doing so in the upcoming months and that in May we will achieve our objective – the Polish Championship,” emphasized Rząsa.

Pereira debuted for Lech on July 23rd, 2021 in a league clash with Radomiak (0:0). In the second league round, against Górnik Zabrze (3:1), he received a red card and, as a result, he didn’t appear on the pitch again until the sixth round. From then on, Joel was the starter and didn’t give up his spot in the line-up, helping the squad win the Polish Championship on the club’s 100^th anniversary. He also performed impressively in the following campaign when Lech competed in the international arena.
