Lech Poznań continue the winning streak with a modest but important 1:0 triumph against Śląsk Wrocław. Filip Szymczak scored the only goal of the game.
The clash with Śląsk was preceded by Lech’s confident, 5:0 win against the current champions, Jagiellonia Białystok, which enabled Niels Frederiksen’s squad to reinforce their position at the top of the table. On Sunday, last season’s second-best team arrived in Poznań. However, in the current campaign, Śląsk isn’t doing as well - before the clash with Lech, they were the second-worst team in the league table and the only one that hasn’t yet won a single game.
Lech dominated on the pitch since the very beginning of the match. Frederiksen’s squad effortlessly recovered the ball from their opponent and managed to stay in its possession for longer periods. However, the hosts did struggle to find a way past Śląsk’s defensive line; they came close to scoring once in the first half but Antonio Milić hit the post. The second half didn’t look much differently – Lech continued putting pressure on their rival whilst struggling to find the back of the net. Finally, in the 68th minute, Filip Szymczak received a good pass from Bryan Fiabema and despite being surrounded by Śląsk’s defenders, Lech’s homegrown player placed the ball in the net. From that moment on, Jacek Magiera’s squad started playing more bravely, but their efforts were futile. The hosts held onto their one-goal advantage until the final whistle and collected three important league points.
